How to Delete Your Facebook Account and Start Fresh

how to delete old facebook account without access

“I deleted the Facebook app on my phone. However, friends can still see my page. I want everything permanently deleted. How can I do this?” – Jean

Facebook is a website where all your data is stored on their servers, not on your devices. If you want to delete your Facebook page permanently, follow these steps:

Deleting Your Facebook Account

  1. Log in to your Facebook account.
  2. Visit the “Delete my account” page at facebook.com/help/delete_account.
  3. Click on the big blue button to initiate the deletion process.

According to Facebook, deleting your account will make it invisible to others on the platform. However, note that it may take up to 90 days for all of your data, including photos, status updates, and other stored information, to be completely deleted from their backup systems. If you decide to log in later, your account may be reactivated, but some or all of your data could be gone.

Downloading a Copy of Your Data

Before deleting your Facebook page, it’s recommended to download a copy of your data as a backup. To do this:

  1. Click on the downward-facing triangle on the top right corner of your Facebook page.
  2. Select “Settings” from the drop-down menu.
  3. On the Settings page, click on the link that says “Download a copy of your Facebook data.”
  4. Facebook will notify you via email when your data is ready to download.

Consider deactivating your account instead of deleting it if you want a temporary break from Facebook. Deactivating an account has the same effect as deletion, as you and your data will disappear from Facebook. However, you can reactivate the account whenever you want.

Recovering an Account Without Email or Password

If you don’t remember your email address or password, recovering your account becomes more challenging. Here’s what you can do:

  1. Visit the “Find Your Account” page at facebook.com/login/identify.
  2. Enter the email addresses and phone numbers you usually use, your username, or your full name to search for your account.
  3. If you can’t find it, ask a Facebook friend or family member to go to your Facebook page and check the “About” section for your email address under “Contact Information.”
  4. Request the URL of your page if your email address isn’t visible. This will help you find your username, which you can enter on the “Find Your Account” page.

If none of these options work, you can create a new Facebook account and report/block your old account. Facebook will review and deactivate the old account once they verify that it’s yours. Unfortunately, merging two accounts is not possible.

To avoid future account access issues, add “trusted contacts” in the Facebook settings. Trusted contacts can help you regain account access by sending a security code.

Starting Fresh

If you want to delete your Facebook account and start anew with a clean page, consider the following:

  • Your Facebook account is linked to your email address and/or phone number, not your real name. Choose carefully which email address and/or phone number you want to use in the future.
  • Before deleting your account, backup your data, as mentioned earlier.
  • Modify key entries in your account settings to something you don’t want. Change your email address to a different working one, create a new password, and update other relevant details.
  • Check the “Account security” settings for any registered devices associated with your account and remove them if necessary.

Remember, once you delete your old account, you will lose friends, photos, messages, comments, favorites, games, and other data. Inform your important friends about your plan to delete the account and create a new one to avoid confusion. Creating a new account and reporting/blocking the old account is against Facebook’s terms and conditions and may not allow you to use your preferred username and email address.

It may take around two weeks to a month for your old information to be removed from Facebook’s system before you can successfully create a new account.

Follow these steps, and soon you’ll have a fresh start with your preferred email address and username on Facebook. Good luck!
