How to Remove Parental Controls on Your Android Device

how to remove parental control on google account without password

The internet can be a wild and unpredictable place, especially for children. That’s why Android devices come equipped with parental controls to limit access to certain apps, movies, and TV shows. Google offers even tighter controls through its Family Link app. However, there may come a time when you feel that your child is ready to explore the digital world without restrictions. Luckily, your Android device makes it easy to turn off parental controls when the time is right. Here are two ways to do it:

Using the Google Play Store

  1. Open the Google Play Store app and tap the menu icon (three stacked lines).
  2. Tap “Settings” and scroll down to “Parental controls.”
  3. In each category, such as “Apps & games” or “Films,” enter your parental controls PIN and adjust the settings as desired. Alternatively, you can toggle off the parental controls entirely.
    • With parental controls off, apps and shows that are “Unrated” will be allowed as well.

Please note that you will need your parental controls PIN to make these changes. If you don’t have the PIN, you can clear the app’s data, which will remove your search history and reset any parental control settings. To do this:

  1. Open your Android device’s Settings app and tap “Apps” or “Apps & notifications.”
  2. Select the Google Play Store app.
  3. Tap “Storage” and then “Clear Data.”
    • Resetting the Google Play Store app will remove the parental controls.

Using the Google Family Link App

If you use Google Family Link to monitor and limit your child’s online activity, you can also turn off those controls. However, this is only possible if your child is 13 years old or older. If their age is set as younger than 13 in the app, the controls will remain active. Nevertheless, you can still make the controls less restrictive. Here’s how:

  1. On your Android device, open the Family Link app and select the child’s account.
  2. Tap “Manage settings” and then “Controls on Google Play” to edit the parental controls, even for children under 13.
    • You can choose what type of content is allowed.

To turn off all parental controls for a child older than 13, go back to the “Manage settings” menu and tap “Account info.” Then, select “Stop supervision,” confirm your choice, and tap “Stop supervision” once again.

By following these steps, you can remove or modify the parental controls on your Android device, giving your child more freedom to explore the digital world safely.
