For the HERO3+ series (and earlier), you can reset your WiFi password through a simple process. Here’s a little shortcut:

  1. Download the WiFi update zip file conveniently provided for you to download here.
  2. Turn off your camera, take out the SD card, and insert it into your computer. Note that you must have your SD card inserted into your computer as GoPro cameras are MTP devices that don’t allow writing to the SD card.
  3. For HERO3+, copy the UPDATE folder inside the zip file to your SD card’s root folder. Make sure it looks the same as the screenshot provided.
  4. For HERO3, place the two files “settings.in” and “update.11.txt” in the root folder.
  5. Eject your SD card, put it back into your camera, and turn it on. The update will take a couple of seconds, and you’ll be back in business!

  2. Open up “settings.in” in a text editor. On Windows, right-click and select “Open with,” then choose Notepad or a similar application.
  3. Edit the “ssid” field from “GoProHero3” to your desired camera name.
  4. Edit the “password” field from “password” to your new password.
  5. Save the file. Make sure not to add any unnecessary characters.
  6. Insert the SD card back into your camera, and the update will proceed with your new settings.

Beware the SD Card Adapter Lock Tab!

When performing these updates, ensure that the little ‘lock’ tab on the SD card adapter is in the unlocked position. You’ll see a small grey tab inside a red square, which needs to be in the ‘up’ position. Otherwise, you may encounter a write error when trying to copy the update files over.
