Give Kids Freedom to Choose with Ask to Buy

With Ask to Buy, parents can empower their children to make their own choices while still maintaining control over their spending. This feature allows kids to request purchases and downloads, giving parents the final say in whether to approve or decline the request. Let’s dive deeper into how Ask to Buy works, who can use it, and how to manage it effectively.

How Ask to Buy works

Ask to Buy simplifies the process of children making purchases or downloading new items. When a child wants to buy or download something, they can send a request to the family organizer. The family organizer receives the request on their device and has the power to approve or decline it. For example, if a child wants to buy an app, the family organizer can review the app and decide whether it meets their standards.

If the family organizer approves the request, the item automatically downloads to the child’s device. On the other hand, if the request is declined, no purchase or download will take place. It’s important to note that if a child redownloads a purchase, downloads a shared item, installs an update, or uses a redemption code, the family organizer won’t receive a request.

Who can use Ask to Buy

Ask to Buy is available to families who have set up Family Sharing. The family organizer has the ability to turn on Ask to Buy for any family member who is under 18. By default, Ask to Buy is already enabled for children under 13. When inviting someone under 18 to your family group, you will be prompted to set up Ask to Buy.
