How to Enable Two-Factor Authentication for Uber

Uber now offers a more secure way to protect your account with two-factor authentication (2FA). By enabling 2FA, you add an extra layer of security that helps prevent unauthorized access to your Uber account. In this guide, we will walk you through the steps to enable 2FA for your Uber account using the Authy app.

Step 1: Install Authy

The first step is to install the Authy app on your device. Authy is a trusted and feature-rich app that allows you to manage all your 2FA accounts in one place. You can sync your accounts across multiple devices and even access them on your desktop. Search for “Authy” in your device’s app store and install it.

Note: If any sites prompt you to use Google Authenticator for 2FA, remember that you can always use the Authy app instead. Authy offers more features like multi-device syncing, cloud backups, and easier account recovery. You can find more information on the features of Authy here.

Step 2: Locate 2FA in the Uber App

Open the Uber app on your mobile device. Tap the three parallel lines at the top left of your screen to open your account page. Scroll down and tap “Settings.” On the next screen, tap “Security.”

Step 3: Enable 2FA

In the Security settings, you will find the option for “2-step verification.” Tap the indicator next to it to enable 2FA. You will be prompted to enter your Uber password for verification.

Next, you will be asked how you wish to receive 2FA codes – via SMS or an authentication app. We recommend selecting the option for the authentication app. Tap the corresponding selection.

On the next screen, you have the choice of capturing the QR code or entering a manual code. Since we are highlighting the process from a single device, we will show the manual code entry method. Copy the code provided by the Uber app and tap “Next.”

Open the Authy app on your device and scroll to the bottom to add a new account. Tap on “Enter Key Manually.” Enter the code you copied from the Uber app, and tap “OK.” In Authy, you will be prompted to name the account. Choose a name, and then tap “Done.” Authy will generate a one-time 2FA code.

Step 4: Finish Setup

After entering the Authy-generated code, you will be presented with a series of backup codes. These codes are important in case you lose access to the Authy app. Make sure to save them in a secure place.
