The Eminent Person and the Secretariat
The consultation process is headed by an Eminent Person, Prof. Dr. Emil Salim. He was appointed to this position in July 2001 by World Bank Group President J. Wolfensohn. Dr. Salim is assisted by a Personal Assistant, Chandra Kirana, who is working from Jakarta.

Dr. Salim is supported by a small secretariat in all administrative and organizational matters to do with the consultation process. The secretariat is headed by Bernard Salome, Dr. Salim’s deputy, who has worked out of Jakarta since February 2002. Roberta Lovatelli, Julia Grutzner, Corina Cotenescu and Emily Horgan are secretariat members working in Washington DC. Mohamad Reza and Erlina Jeniwati are staff working in Jakarta.

Dr. Emil Salim
Eminent Person
Dr Salim has a notable record of achievement within Indonesia where he served as State Minister for Population and Environment for almost 15 years. Internationally, he has had a distinguished role in a number of environment related bodies and initiatives, including the United Nations High Level Advisory Board on Sustainable Development and the World Health Organization Commission on Health and Environment, of which he is a member. He is currently the chairman for the Preparatory Committee of the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD) and was co-chair or the World Commission on Forests and Sustainable Development. He has doctorates in economics from the University of Indonesia and the University of California at Berkeley in the United States.

Bernard Salomé
Head of Secretariat
Bernard Salomé has undertaken a range of assignments internationally from policy and planning to crisis management for the Organisation of Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), Group of 7 (G7), United Nations (UN), European Community (EC), and World Bank Group over a period of twenty years. He has been in external assignments in Russia, Brussels, and Kosovo. In his latest assignment in Pristina he was responsible for designing the strategy and implementation plan for the closure of the Trepca lead smelter. He is the author of eight books.

Chandra Kirana
Personal Assistant to Dr. Salim
Chandra Kirana has a degree in Psychology from the Gadjah Mada University, Jogyakarta, Indonesia. She has over 12 years of experience working on development, gender and environment issues. In the last 5 years she has worked mostly as a communications and outreach specialist within the Natural Resource Management Program, co-owned by the Government of Indonesia and the Government of the United States.
Roberta Lovatelli
Program Coordinator
Roberta Lovatelli has been with the World Bank Group for more than 20 years, principally in public relations/events planning and in World Bank operations in the Eastern Europe and Central Asia regions. Roberta’s tasks within the World Bank included working for the World Bank/IMF Annual Meetings for 12 years, organizing an Environmental Study Tour in Portugal and Spain, the Armenia Consultative Group meeting in Paris, among others.

Julia Grützner
Program Officer
Julia Grützner is a recent graduate of the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) where she earned an MA in International Studies. Her specialization and academic background is in economic development.

Emily Horgan
Communications Officer
Emily Horgan has just graduated from the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) with an MA in International Studies. Her area of concentration was International Law and International Economics. Prior to this, she worked for The Financial Times in London and Washington D.C. as an editorial assistant and intern, respectively.

Corina Cotenescu
Program Assistant
Corina Cotenescu has just completed the first year of post-graduate studies at the School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, concentrating in International Development. Prior to this she worked for the Economic Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Romania, dealing with International Financial Institutions.
