What is SSPR and What are “Authentication Methods”?
The Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) tool allows you to change your Walmart account password quickly and easily – without having to contact the help desk. It also allows you to unlock your account if you entered the wrong password too many times. For more information about SSPR, visit the SSPR Information page, or visit wmlink/SSPRsetup to set up SSPR.
Note: You must be connected to the Walmart network to set up SSPR. At this time, some accounts may not be eligible for SSPR. Please see the FAQs for more information about SSPR eligibility.
The Self-Service Password Reset (SSPR) tool validates your identity using any of the following authentication methods. When you set up SSPR, you will be required to choose at least two authentication methods (exception: Health and Wellness associates only need to choose one method).
Mobile App Notification

This method requires you to install the Microsoft Mobile Authenticator app on your mobile phone. When you select this method for validation during a password reset, a notification will be sent to your phone, prompting you to acknowledge verification.
Mobile App Code
This method requires you to install the Microsoft Mobile Authenticator app on your mobile phone. When you select this method for validation during a password reset, you will be requested to enter a code shown on the screen of the Authenticator App, to acknowledge verification.
When using Email as a validation method, you will provide an email address external to Walmart, typically your personal address. When you select this method for validation during a password reset, you will be asked to enter a code emailed to that address containing a verification code. An email address external to Walmart is required because a Walmart-based mailbox will not be accessible if you are locked out or have to reset your password.
Mobile Phone
This method allows for an SMS text to be sent to your mobile phone containing a verification code. To complete the sign-in process, the verification code provided is entered into the sign-in interface.
When using mobile phone as a validation method, you will provide the number to a phone that can receive text messages, be it a personal or work provided phone. When you select this method for validation during a password reset, you will be asked to enter a code texted to your phone.

Today, security questions (and answers) are considered way too insecure by the industry (think how easy it is to research somebody’s town of birth, or mother’s maiden name on social media!) For this reason, Walmart will no longer offer Security Questions as a validation method (other than to Health & Wellness users, with an ultimate goal of removing their use all together).
