Screen Pinning

Screen pinning is a smartphone feature that prevents accidental movement of an app. It comes in handy when you want to show pictures, videos, or other files on your phone to someone who is not familiar with your operating system, such as iOS or Android, and might accidentally swipe or perform another gesture. When an app is pinned, the normal home gesture or button is disabled and replaced with a more difficult-to-activate option.

To learn how to pin an app on your smartphone, follow the instructions below based on your device type.

Pinning an app on an Android smartphone

To pin apps on an Android device, you need to enable the “Pin windows” setting first. Here’s how:

  1. Open the settings.
  2. Select the Biometrics and security section.
  3. Scroll down and choose Other security settings.
  4. Under Advanced, toggle on the Pin windows option.

Once you have enabled Pin windows, you can proceed with pinning the app:

  1. Launch the app you want to pin.
  2. Open the app switcher using your gesture or navigation button.
  3. Tap the app icon at the top of its window (for example, tap the Chrome icon in the pictured example).
  4. From the popup menu, select Pin this app.

Once you have enabled and configured Guided Access, you can pin an app:

  2. Press the side button (located on the right side of the iPhone) three times to activate Guided Access.
