Protect Your Email with Data Encryption

Data encryption is a vital part of safeguarding your most valuable information assets, especially when it comes to your email system. Your email system is where sensitive content, such as customer information, financials, business plans, and intellectual property, is often shared among colleagues. By protecting this information from data loss, you can avoid fines, legal fees, revenue loss, and the negative publicity that accompanies major security breaches.

The Challenge of Email Encryption

Traditionally, data encryption for email has been complex and burdensome to manage. Popular methods like Public Key Infrastructure or enforced server-to-server Transport Layer Security require extensive administration or necessitate recipients to download software to receive messages.

However, Mimecast provides an easy-to-use solution for data encryption and data loss prevention (DLP). With Mimecast, users can securely send messages and attachments without needing to navigate complex encryption technology.

Mimecast’s Data Encryption Solution

Mimecast offers data encryption technology as part of a comprehensive suite of services for email security, archiving, and continuity. With Mimecast Secure Messaging, users can simply check a box in their email application to send email and attachments with data encryption. Mimecast Cloud Archive also automatically encrypts all email and files stored in Mimecast’s cloud archive.

To enhance data protection, Mimecast’s subscription service includes DLP protection that scans all outgoing email traffic to prevent leaks. Additionally, Mimecast safeguards data from viruses, malware, and advanced threats like spear-phishing through a range of services designed to identify and block suspicious email and attachments.

As a cloud-based service, Mimecast eliminates the need for installation, maintenance, and upgrades. Organizations can quickly roll out Mimecast’s data encryption, email security, and DLP products across the entire organization and manage them from a centralized administrative console.

Sending a Secure Email with Mimecast

With Mimecast, sending an email with data encryption is a breeze. Employees can initiate a secure email in Outlook or Mimecast for Mac by selecting “Send Secure” before pressing the send button. Administrators also have the option to configure Mimecast’s data encryption technology to automatically send messages securely based on specific policy criteria.

Once an email is sent, the message and any attachments are uploaded to the Mimecast cloud, where they undergo malware scanning and are stored with data encryption in a secure archive. Message recipients receive a notice with instructions on how to log in to the Secure Messaging Service portal. From there, they can read and reply to secure messages or compose new messages back to the company.
