Keeping your funds and personal information safe is of utmost importance to us at Bitstamp. We prioritize your security by utilizing robust technological infrastructure, implementing rigorous security measures, and providing extensive insurance policies. However, there are additional steps you can take to enhance the security of your account, funds, and personal information.

What is Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)?

Two-factor authentication (2FA) is a powerful security measure that ensures you are the only one with access to your account. With 2FA, you are required to confirm critical account actions, such as logging in or withdrawing funds, using a second device. For instance, if you log in on your desktop computer, 2FA mandates that you confirm the login on a separate device, such as your mobile phone.

Why is 2FA So Effective?

Even if you employ a strong password, change it regularly, and keep all your login devices secure, there is still a minimal risk of unauthorized access to your account. 2FA significantly decreases this risk.

With 2FA activated, an intruder attempting to gain access to your account would not only need to learn your password and gain access to a device commonly used for login, but they would also require physical possession of the device you use for 2FA. This multi-layered protection makes unauthorized access a much more daunting task.

For example, if someone tried to log into your Bitstamp account on your personal computer, they would be unable to gain entry without a confirmation code generated on your mobile phone, which ideally remains safely stored in your pocket.

How Can You Enable 2FA at Bitstamp?

Enabling 2FA at Bitstamp is a straightforward process. You can either set it up during the registration of your account or enable it later in the Two-Factor Authentication submenu of your account. Follow these steps:

  1. Download and install the Google Authenticator or Duo Mobile app on your smartphone or tablet.
  2. Write down or print your authentication key and store it safely. This key allows you to reset 2FA in case you lose your phone or want to set it up on a second device.
  3. Use your new authentication app to scan the QR code on your screen. If you’re registering your account using the Bitstamp app, copy the provided setup key to your authentication app.
  4. Enter the 6-digit code generated by the authentication app into Bitstamp to complete the setup process.

Once enabled, every time you log in, you will be prompted to enter a 6-digit code from your authentication app. This code is automatically generated every 30 seconds, providing an added layer of security.

With two-factor authentication enabled, you can have peace of mind knowing that your money and personal information at Bitstamp are as secure as possible.
