Exception to SF User for Excluding them through MFA Authentication in Salesforce

waive multi-factor authentication for exempt users

In this article, we will discuss how you, as an Administrator, can set an exception for excluding Salesforce users from multi-factor authentication (MFA). While it is generally recommended to enable MFA for all users to enhance security, there may be situations where you need to exempt a specific user from this authentication process.

Excluding Users from MFA Authentication in Salesforce

To exclude a user from MFA authentication in Salesforce, you can use the “Waive Multi-Factor Authentication for Exempt Users” permission by assigning a permission set. This allows you to exclude a user from MFA authentication without changing the org-wide MFA settings.

Steps to Exclude Users

To exclude a user from MFA authentication using a permission set in Salesforce, follow these steps:

  1. Log in to your Salesforce account as an administrator.
  2. Click on the gear icon in the top right corner and select “Setup”.

  1. In the left-hand navigation, expand the “Users” section and click on “Permission Sets”.
  2. Click “New” to create a new permission set.

Permission Sets

  1. Give the permission set a name and description, and click “Save”. Make sure to select the license that matches the user’s license to exclude them from MFA authentication.

  1. Finally, click on “Manage Assignments”.
  2. Assign the permission set to the user(s) you want to exclude from MFA authentication. This permission set can also be assigned to other users as an exception in Salesforce.

Assign Permission Set

Please note that assigning the “Waive Multi-Factor Authentication for Exempt Users” permission reduces the security of the user’s account. It should only be done when absolutely necessary and for specific users. Remember to revert the changes once the need for exemption is no longer present.

By following these instructions, you can create an exception to exclude specific users from the MFA authentication process in Salesforce.
